Transformative Education in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda: Multidisciplinary Perspectives and Pathways to Sustainable Development
Transformative Education in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda: Multidisciplinary Perspectives and Pathways to Sustainable Development
A description of the project Various global indices including the Social
Progress Index and the Human Development Index show that low educational
attainment is most widespread in Sub-Saharan Africa, and South Asia.
Sub-Saharan African countries often suffer from relatively unstable economies,
as well as conflicts and droughts which further worsen the educational crisis
and poverty levels. Further, the education system
is not culturally responsive because the mother tongue instruction policy has
not been well embraced. Other challenges include the lack of critical thinking
and problem-solving aspect in most of the teaching curriculum as well as poorly
trained teachers.
The main
goal of the research is to examine the transformative potential of education in
Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda, fostering a deeper understanding of how
multidisciplinary approaches can catalyze sustainable development pathways
within the region.
Research
objectives 1.Investigate the concept of transformative education within the
contexts of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.
2.Explore the multidisciplinary perspectives relevant to
transformative education in East Africa. 3. Investigate the pathways through which
transformative education can contribute to sustainable development in Tanzania,
Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. 4. To
assess the potential opportunities and challenges associated with integrating
transformative education into broader development agendas in the region.
