Umoja wa wawezeshaji KIOO was founded in 2001 as a response to the challenges with child labor and sexual exploitation of young women and children. The organization was registered in 2004 under NGO Act with certificate of registration number 00NGO/R2/000179. We envision a Tanzanian society where every individual is free from poverty, injustice and lives a life in dignity.

KIOO mission is deeply rooted in promoting and protecting the rights of the poor and marginalized groups, with a special focus on women, people with disabilities and vulnerable children, while simultaneously enhancing sustainable community development. We believe that by empowering these groups, we can foster positive change and create a more equitable society for all. Our mission is achieved through a comprehensive approach that involves coordinated interventions across various sectors include:

• Education: We strive to improve access to quality education for all, especially for marginalized groups. This includes initiatives to increase school enrollment, provide educational resources and support lifelong learning opportunities.
• Human Rights: We are committed to upholding human rights principles and advocating for the rights of all individuals, particularly those who are often marginalized or discriminated against. Our efforts include raising awareness, providing legal assistance and promoting accountability mechanisms.
• Agriculture: Recognizing the importance of agriculture in sustainable development, we work to enhance agricultural practices, improve food security and increase income-generating opportunities for rural communities.
• Environment Conservation: We are dedicated to environmental conservation efforts aimed at preserving natural resources, mitigating climate change impacts and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
• Governance: We advocate for transparent and accountable governance systems that prioritize the needs of the most vulnerable. Our initiatives focus on promoting good governance practices, fostering citizen participation and strengthening institutions.
• Economic Empowerment: Through various economic empowerment programs, we aim to enhance the livelihoods of marginalized groups by providing training, access to financial resources and support for entrepreneurship and income-generating activities.
• Social Protection: We work to ensure social protection mechanisms are in place to safeguard the well-being of vulnerable populations, including access to healthcare, social assistance programs and protection against exploitation and abuse.
