National Dialogue on Inclusive Leadership, Telling Our Own Stories and Needs
Fri, 16-May-2025
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – A landmark
National Dialogue on Inclusive Leadership was convened on 16 May 2025 at
the Beachcomber Hotel and Resort, drawing together key national stakeholders including
Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), electoral bodies, political actors, and
development partners to deliberate on enhancing inclusive political
participation across the country.
Despite Tanzania progressive legal
and policy frameworks, PWDs remain grossly underrepresented in the political
arena. This underrepresentation stems from persistent stigma, inaccessible
electoral systems, and limited institutional responsiveness. With Tanzania
preparing for future electoral cycles, this dialogue emerged as a timely and
strategic initiative to confront these challenges and promote a
disability-inclusive leadership landscape.
Theme and Purpose Held under the powerful theme Telling
Our Own Stories and Needs, the dialogue aimed to elevate the voices of
PWDs, allowing them to share lived experiences and directly articulate their
needs and priorities to stakeholders responsible for shaping governance and
electoral processes.
Key Objectives The National Dialogue sought to
achieve the following objectives
Enable PWDs—particularly youth
and women to highlight the challenges they face in leadership and electoral
participation.·
Facilitate collaborative
strategizing among Election Management Bodies (EMBs), political parties,
the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, and PWD organizations. Strengthen trust and partnerships
between PWD-led organizations and the development partner community.

range of stakeholders, including

of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)·
