KIOO Organizing Observers for Second Phase of Voter Registration in Tanzania Under Inclusive Governance and Participation Initiative

Umoja wa wawezeshaji KIOO has begun organizing and deploying a new cohort of observers for the second phase of Tanzania voter registration exercise, as part of its ongoing commitment to inclusive governance and civic participation. Building on the success of the first phase, KIOO is coordinating Long-Term Observers (LTOs) across key regions to observe accessibility, transparency and the active involvement of underrepresented groups, including women, youth and persons with disabilities.

The initiative is being carried out under KIOO flagship program on Inclusive Governance and Participation, which seeks to promote democratic values and equal political representation across Tanzania.

We are committed to ensuring that no group is left behind in the democratic process, the KIOO Executive director said. Our observation efforts are designed not only to track the fairness and efficiency of voter registration but also to spotlight the level of inclusivity in these critical national processes.

Observers are currently undergoing refresher training on data collection tools and rights-based approaches, with particular focus on identifying barriers faced by marginalized groups at registration centers.

Their findings will inform advocacy efforts and policy recommendations aimed at improving electoral access and participation ahead of the upcoming elections. KIOO calls on local authorities, CSOs, and the public to support and cooperate with the observation efforts, reinforcing collective responsibility in building an inclusive and accountable democracy in Tanzania.
